YOUNG GHANAIAN media entrepreneur and GhOne TV presenter, Eli Kharis, born Elinam Amenyo who won the Television Host of the Year’ at the 2018 West African Youth Forum and Awards, has said that getting an award comes with a huge responsibility.
According to her, she was awarded due to her excellence in the broadcasting field and there is more responsibility after grabbing the prestigious award. She explained that “This award suggest that perhaps I have succeeded in some measure, and there is more to do and expected of me. This award has filled me with a strong sense of pride.”
Eli Kharis added that, she has always wanted to empower young people of Ghana and beyond through her work as a media personality, she encouraged the youth not to be discourage because of their age, she advised that “We are not too young to make positive impact in the society as this year’s theme for West African Youth Awards which is ‘not too young to lead’.”
Kharis believes in staying true to one’s self, and describes herself as free-spirited, compassionate and a very outgoing person. Her favourite saying is “history abounds with tales of experts who were convinced that the ideas, plans, and projects of others could never be achieved. However, accomplishment came to those who said ‘I can make it happen,’ took a step, worked towards a goal and ‘Earned the crown.’
The young media entrepreneur who started her media career as a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2012, has hosted two talk shows on Campus radio station, Focus FM: ‘A Health Talk’ and ‘Every Woman’s Corner’ – a lifestyle show that sought to empower the youth to live healthy life and purposeful lives on campus. She was also a part of the news team of the station for a period of two years. She joined GhOneTV as a national service personnel when the station was owned and managed by Charter House after a successful audition.
She was a producer of ‘GHToday,’ GhOneTV’s flagship morning show program and presenter of ‘News Xtra,’ the entertainment news segment on the show. She hosted ‘Glam Blogger’ – a fashion news segment on GLAM TV, and the entertainment news segment on award-winning ‘E-Talk’ in 2016.
She is currently the host of ‘Buzz’ on ‘Rhythmz Live’ and ‘Let’s Go Shopping’ (an advertising show) on GhOneTV. ‘The Cake Fair 2017,’ ‘Glitz Africa’s SHE Summit – Campus edition,’ launch of ‘Yenko Taxi’ app, Mr. Model Africa 2017 and Accra Mall Fashion Weekend are some of the events she’s hosted.
About the 2018 West African Youth Forum and Awards
This year’s edition was held at the La Villa Boutique hotel in Osu, Accra under the theme ‘Not too Young to lead.’
The awards celebrate young people between the ages of 18 and 35, who made outstanding achievements during the year under review. It is aimed at building a bridge amongst West African Youth towards developing the region.
