Tanzania President Bans Newspaper for reporting on currency fall

Tanzania President John Magufuli has banned a Tanzanian Newspaper Citizen Newspaper for reporting on the depreciating Tanzanian shilling against the US dollar.

The President accused the Newspaper of reporting on Fake News about its currency.

The Registrar of Newspapers in Tanzania says the decision to suspend the licence temporarily follows the printing of a number of misleading articles that “largely violate media ethics and incite citizens against the government.”

The government has, since 2015, closed several critical newspapers and imposed new restrictive laws on freedom of expression.

Below is the story made by Citizen Newspaper that got it suspended for Seven Days.
