“Ghana is probably the most slept on the country. They are the highest developing. They are a lot more organized. And they speak English. Even when you look at how Ghana is developing, it is amazing! Ghana is a lot more easy to deal with. It’s cool. It’s calm.” stated Akon during the press conference held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra on Sunday, December 29, 2019, and hosted by Live FM Presenter, Antoine Mensah.

Credited as the first artiste solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice, Akon is celebrated often for projecting and highlighting business opportunities on the African continent to the rest of the world.

He praised the efforts of Hollywood star, Boris Kodjoe and the Ghanaian government for the ‘Year of Return’ initiative.

“I think the biggest reason is that Ghanaians took the initiative to own it. You got people like (Boris) Kodjoe, who is one of the pioneers of creating this situation… one of the leading diasporas and when you got people like that that take the initiative and you have other Ghanaians taking the initiative, the idea is great but if you don’t execute on it… because when it was announced anybody could have took it and run with it. Anybody could have owned that. More than anything, Ghana took the charge and owned it. And I want to thank Kodjoe.”

Akon shared the inspiration behind the afrobeats album ‘Akonda’ and a new album to be released in 2020.
