Editorial policy

Rules of the aperture

Fylladey reports work that is not finished yet, and this policy states how the newsroom handles what remains uncertain.

A prototype is not a product

A laboratory result is reported as a result, with the conditions under which it was obtained.

A production date given by a maker is attributed to that maker and treated as an intention.

Naming the source of a number

A specification carries the manufacturer, the model year and the market it applies to.

A study is named with its institution and its publication, and its sample size when that matters.

Specifications change before launch

A revised figure or a cancelled programme sends the newsroom back to the stories that carried it.

A correction raised through the contact form is checked and the new date stays visible.

The bylines of the aperture

An author page states which fields a byline covers, without claiming a laboratory or an industry post.

Makers, samples and advertising

Commercial content is labelled and never presented as an independent measurement.

No manufacturer buys a favourable specification or the removal of a caveat.

Health and money have limits

Health and money coverage here is general information and replaces neither a clinician nor a licensed adviser.
